Lime Crime, a brand known for its innovative makeup formulations that are saturated with color – and its eye-catching packaging – has received this warning letter from the FDA.

The letter is about the coloring agents ferric ferrocyanide and ultramarines, which are listed on the label for the brand’s Velvetine’s Liquid Matte Lipstick. Both ingredients are approved for use in externally applied products, which doesn’t include lipstick.

Getting a letter from the FDA isn’t necessarily “news” about any cosmetics brand, and could potentially be an issue that is easily corrected – but Fashionista explains why this is yet another issue that may affect Lime Crime’s image, among many.
